Bruno Cocset is a cellist, lecturer, and luthier who seeks the synergy between music and historical instruments. Cocset was the first graduate of the prestigious baroque cello pioneer Christophe Coin. In addition to teaching in France and Switzerland, Cocset is among other activities the founder of a historical cello class at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona and a summer course in Vanne, France which includes both, an instrument-making workshop and a resource center devoted to repertories from the Renaissance to the nineteenth century. Until the formation of Les Basses Réunies, Cocset mainly worked as a cellist with Jordi Savall’s ensembles Hesperion XX-XXI and Le Concert des Nations, and with Gérard Lesne’s ensemble Il Seminario Musicale.

Drawing its origins from Rome, Naples, Bologna, Venice, from Renaissance and Seicento, this program offers a journey where musical languages inexorably intersect, feed each other, challenge more than they oppose, weaving musical forms that will become perennial until us: ricercare like ‘research’, danza like a timeless source, canzone like ‘song sketching a sonata’, capriccio as a hymn to freedom, and the sonata or the instrumental suite of the 18th century. The common thread of this ‘conversation’ is one instrument: the Cello.
